Frequently Asked Questions

What is screen resolution?

Screen resolution is the number of pixels your display renders, expressed as width × height (e.g., 1920 × 1080). Higher resolution means more pixels and sharper images.

What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size?

Screen resolution is the full physical pixel count of your hardware. Viewport size is the CSS pixel area available inside your browser window — it's smaller because it excludes the browser toolbar, OS taskbar, and other UI chrome.

What is Device Pixel Ratio (DPR)?

DPR is how many physical pixels back each CSS pixel. A DPR of 2 (Retina) means the display uses 2×2 physical pixels per logical pixel, giving sharper text and images. Standard HD monitors have DPR of 1.

How is refresh rate measured?

We use requestAnimationFrame to count frames over one second, giving an accurate real-world measurement of your display's refresh rate in Hz.

Does this tool work on mobile?

Yes! screenresolutionsize.com is fully responsive and works on iPhones, Android phones, iPads, and tablets. It auto-detects portrait vs landscape orientation.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Everything runs in-browser via standard JavaScript APIs. No data leaves your device. We don't use cookies for tracking.

What is a good PPI for a monitor?

For desktop monitors: 90–110 PPI is standard. 110–140 PPI is sharp. 140+ PPI is "Retina" quality. Smartphones typically have 300–460 PPI.

Why does my 4K monitor show 1920×1080 here?

Windows and macOS scale 4K displays by default (DPR 2×). Your screen hardware is 3840×2160 but your OS reports 1920×1080 logical pixels to apps. DPR will show 2× to confirm this.
